A summit of mayor participants in the WHO “healthy cities” network will be held in Almaty

A meeting with mayors and political leaders will be in Almaty, where the importance of cities in primary health care and general health coverage will be discussed.

The event is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the first international declaration signed in Almaty for the primary health care support, as the main strategy for ensuring health for all.

It should be mentioned that the declaration played an important role for the foundation of the World Health Organization's European Network for Healthy Health.

Since then, strong community-based primary health care systems have been considered an essential element in ensuring health and well-being for all.

The summit, held in order to preserve and enhance the heritage of the Almaty Declaration, will be a platform for discussing such important issues as the role of cities and regions in maintaining the necessary attention to primary health care, the contribution of healthy cities to public health, social justice and by migration. Following the Summit, the Almaty statement of mayors will be adopted.

The forum will be held in Almaty on October 23-24 this year, where more than 100 representatives of city administrations have to attend. It will be before the Global Conference on Primary Health Care, which will be held in Astana.
